Liska’s Enduring Spiritual Legacy

Liska, established as a hub of Jewish cultural and religious life in the 1800s, holds an important place in history. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. With nearly 3,000 Jewish residents in the late 19th century, Liska was a thriving center of Jewish culture. Liska’s influence extends beyond its borders, reaching nearby towns like Kerestir and impacting Jewish life across Hungary. Each year, nearly 5,000 people visit Liska, attracted by its historical and spiritual landmarks.

The preservation of Liska’s heritage relies on both local communities and international organizations.
